After stabilizing physical needs, such as lifestyle and security, the next step is to target the psychological needs. According to Clay (2001), the probability of having health issues, concerning the mind and body, is higher if your wealth is insufficient. Despite popular belief, psychological health issues are just as dependent on money as the more apparent physical health issues. For example, charity is one of the fundamental steps towards mental growth because it encourages selflessness by allowing one to give away their belongings. However, someone who has a stagnant income and is living from paycheck to paycheck cannot even afford to think of, let alone give charity. Similarly, low income people tend to ignore alarming aspects of their environment such as global warming, and as a result they limit their sense of awareness. Moreover, wealth reduces financial stress, which in turn leads to sound decision making skills. Low income subconsciously affects one’s perspective and compels them to make unsatisfactory choices. Therefore, with a suitable income, one is unlikely to make mediocre decisions.
