TASK 1

It has been emerged by global Supply Chain Management experts and global business owners that innovation, continuous improvement, risk management, sustainability and collaboration are key global supply chain challenges for early future.

You will critically evaluate the benefits and challenges of the key challenges provided and mention how does it affect each other ahead of global organizations including manufacturers and retailers if they want to promote these crucial supply chain management strategies in the future.

You are required to underpin your views using a wide variety of theories and strategies from academic journal articles and books.

Furthermore, you are required to use examples from global businesses of your choice to support your arguments.

TASK 2

Global manufacturers have been trying to gain more competitive advantage through different processes during last decade.

You will critically evaluate the role of supply chain management to gain competitive advantage [probably include styles such as Lean, Agility, both combined (Leagility), and also their Key Performance Index (KPI)] for a global maritime logistics provider

(Such as shipping lines, port operators, etc.)

You are required to underpin your views using a wide variety of theories and strategies from academic journal articles and books.

You are required to use one example from Global Maritime Logistics provider or Port Operators of your choice to support your arguments.

In Summary, within this task (task 2), you need to find one example of either a shipping line company or a port operator, analyze on how will the company can gain competitive advantage within global scale.

These guidelines are to assist you in your planning. You can use them to help structure your work. However you can also devise your own structure and credit will be given as long as you have answered the question set using appropriate theory and literature.

 

Task 1

–        You need to identify what each strategy is focusing on and then develop the benefits and challenges of each of these strategies and also the role of each to the other strategies.

–        You need to have a holistic view and critically evaluate how each of these strategies could promote benefits and challenges to the future global supply chain management with the support or deterrent role of other strategies.

–        You can choose some of the global businesses that have power in global supply chain and evaluate their approach towards this as business examples.

–        You must remember that innovation, collaboration, sustainability, continuous improvement and risk management are themselves reliant on other practices and strategies.

–        It is critically important to have a cross-functional view and DO NOT evaluate these strategies in isolation in order to analyse the future benefits and challenges ahead in global supply chain.

Task 2

        You need to understand what competitive advantage means and what key performance indicators (KPI) could have crucial role on gaining competitive advantage. Then, focus on how supply chain management can promote gaining competitive advantage.

–        This is a critical evaluation and you need to have an argumentative discussion. For example how, why and through what strategies or practices supply chain management can reduce cost or/and increase profit? What could be benefits and drawbacks of those supply chain management strategies in relation to promoting competitive advantage? What could be the possible clashes or trade- offs between these strategies?

–        You should remember that your discussion and critical evaluation must focus on maritime logistics providers and therefore consider supply chain processes and strategies that maritime logistics providers are mainly involved.
